Once you have made the decision to purchase tile or stone it is important to understand the maintenance requirements of your unique product.
Sealers & Cleaners
Stone:
The best way to prevent stains on stone is to treat it with a Stonetech professional protective sealer. Natural Stone can be very porous. Sealers fill in natural pores and repel spills on the surface giving you time to wipe them away before they have a chance to penetrate your stone. Just a few ounces of sealer can protect your stone for years to come. Some sealers can enhance [darken] your stone while others retain stones natural hue. Different stones require different grades of sealer depending on your application and what you want you’re stone to look like. All the products required for sealing your stone are available and in stock at Small’s Tile and specific instruction is always available.
Once you’re stone is sealed, cleaning and regular maintenance is easy. Natural stone requires cleaning products that are specifically made for its unique mineral composition. For every day cleaning a gentle, ph neutral formula cleaner will remove soils and reinforce the original protective seal. General household cleaners are never recommended as they break down the sealer removing its protective properties and making the stone susceptible to stains. Some general gleaners will even etch and discolor the stone. All cleaners and maintenance products in easy to use sprays and concentrates are available at Small’s Tile.
Tile:
Ceramic and porcelain tile is nearly impervious to liquid. Grout, on the other is generally cement based, very porous and should be sealed.
